1. Liquid Carrier
Last week's Junkyard Wars (Season 9 UK) had an excellent challenge called
Smooth Riders. The idea was to build a vehicle that could carry an open vat
of liquid-I think it was some sort of yellow paint/dye and water-across a
bumpy race course.
We could have people build a robot that could fastest drive across an
obstacle course while having to carry an open container full of liquid or
sand, say a 500ml (smile Iain) yogourt tub. The container must remain open
and clear of obstructions, and would be filled near to the top.
This would be a slightly more difficult challenge than the line following
game we always shoot down for being too boring-an wouldn't be too hard.
2. RC Racer Live2
Anyone interested in a soccer or all out combat Live2 using the RC Racers?
I know there's only three channels, but 2 players is more than enough for a
game of battlebots like combat.
3. Pipe Racers
I was at the Home Depot looking at 2" PVC pipe. The actual components are
relatively cheap-$7 for a long 6 ft length of pipe and about $1 for 45 deg
joints. They also fit snugly without cement.
I REALLY would like to see a game on pipe racers. Start with say 20
segments of one or two feet and 20 joints. Each round is built on the spot
by building a path out of those components. Everyone runs the "course",
then another path is made. The lowest aggregate time for the day wins.
The mechanics of building a ring mechanism that could grip and ungrip the
pipe would be really intricate. I'd like to see how people build
irises-something that is pretty unusual for Lego construction.
There's also the difficulty of building something that can work in all
directions and situations-the pipe could go straight up, down, at an angle etc.
I can see it now-Anti-Joint times would soon ensue. Anyone want to try
this? Anyone? Please?

| (...) Good idea in principle, but how to protect the electrical components of the Lego? I mean, we could use something non-polar like benzene, but... Plus it could get messy. And if we're doing messy, I say we should do my "Let Them Eat Cake"* (...) (22 years ago, 9-Dec-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
