With the lack of any upcoming train event, I feel a some what shallow
victory.

On one hand it is sad that the train heads will not soon be bantering in
this news group with drivel of mountain clearance height, 3 wide or 10
wide, or just how many bricks high Iains darn camera car is.

None the less Victory is "ours" once again RTLToronto can be a haven for
all things Robotic, Toronto and insurance.

So, with this out of the way,  and a short break for me to apply  hand
cream.....(it really is DRY this time of year)... now I have to wait for
the greasy feeling to go away.....

OK without further adieu, I would like to formerly challenge the group
to a new lego Robot game.

I have thought LONG and HARD about what we as a group need for the next
game.  this is a short list:

1. A SIMPLE game.  a break from the massive challenge that was RTL10
http://peach.mie.utoronto.ca/events/lego/lego-022302-rules.html

2. A return to A/C style steering robots.   from monkeys to gantry's,
let us return to a simpler time.

3. NO complex-algebraic-floating-point-array-math-requirements to solve
programing -- If I never create a robot that has over 64 nested if
loops......

4. EASY enuff so that Bruce actually shows up with a working robot.

5.  requires no special game board play surface -- someone stole the 8'
x 8' grey play field about 8 months ago.

6.  return to 1 RCX only rule.  --  I want to be able to enter 4
separate robots.  ;)

With these criteria in mind and with a small consensus of guys after the
last event I formerly present:

"Capture the Flag from the OTHER Table"

the rules as an outline will be thus:

- set up 2 tables and spread them about 8" apart.  (that's about 20 cm
or 200 mm)
- on each table place a "flag"  (yet to be finalize, but probably a lego
tire with an axle in in)
- on each table one player will place his robot
- build a robot, that uses 1 RCX and fits within a 1' cube (that's about
30cm cubed)
    - the robot has to be autonomous
    - the robot must cross the table gap
    - the robot has to find the opponents flag and lift it off the table
surface.  (brushing it off the table will NOT count)

the first to do this win.

some things that came up in discussion.  if you can build a robot that
does ALL this and is STRONG enuff to separate the 2 tables beyond the 8"
gap then you are welcome to try.

if you build a robot that seeks out other robots and pushes them off the
table then  go for it.

the tables will NOT have a fence.

the tables will NOT be marked, so your robot has to assume the first gap
it reaches will be the one to cross.  (tricky eh?)

your robot is NOT allowed to hide its own flag.  nor can it leave a
guard,  or even drop land mine lego.

the robot will be placed at a distance far enuff from the gap to make it
exciting for the rest of us.

This Event will be held in early July.  The library no longer accepts
bookings beyond 3 months in advance.  So we have until the beginning of
May to work out any issues with people and schedules and time off or
summer break or whatever.  Please let me know ASAP.

the usual disclaimers apply, I am not a lawyer, try NOT to break my
B*ll's by pointing out ALL the loopholes. cause i will just answer with
the usual "spirit of the game" answer.

Can we assume there will be something like a bushing at the top of the axel? Otherwise we would need to build a gripper that can grip a bare axel fairly well in order to lift the flag. ie: 888 8 888 <- bushing 8 888 8 8 8 8 <--- bare axel ---...---> (...) (...) I hope the legs of the tables are collapsed and resting on the floor (thus the tabletops are 3-4 inches above the floor, not 2.5 feet) Can I get a modification to the rules please? Can the 'bots fit within 18 inches (1.5 feet) instead of 1 (...) (22 years ago, 28-Mar-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
