Perhaps we should do a simpler contest this time, although I too am still

If we go with your idea Dave, should we use the 8x8 arena instead of the
smaller one?  How big should the white square be? Will we run into trouble
differentiating black, grey and white (did you solve the problem from the
last contest)? I'm not sure if we should allow a robot to simply drive to
the centre and declare victory. Even with randomly placed white squares, you
could probably still be pretty accurate using 2 rotation sensors.

if driving straight there via 2 rotation sensors is an issue, we could have
one more small rule.

at startup, your opponent can place your 'bot within your square, facing it
in whatever direction they choose.  you get to press the 'run button but
your opponent places your 'bot.

that'll prevent you placing your 'bot in an exact line to the center white
square. i have enuf false white squares on the field to gum up any other
operation besides following the black line.

i want to see some quck moving 'bots scurrying everywhere... that's what i
noticed at the last competition, fast little 'bots instead of big cumbersome
'bots... waittaminit....

i could change the competition to have 4 'bots go head to head to the center
square... then i'd needd the 8x8... that'd be interesting.

i solved the lighting problem for hte last match by deflecting my light
sensor at about 2 degrees from center.  instead of pointing straight down,
such that the sensor picks up the reflected red light, the light sensor was
angled and the red bounced harmlessly away, leaving the sensor able to pick
up a true reading.

was a bit of a heart stopper until i came up with that idea.  i still like
watching my 'bot drive around for 4.5 min picking up and sorting blocks,
then 'dance' over the line, then dump blocks.

yes my 'bot's still together.  i'm attached to this one for some strange
reason.  besides, if i took it apart, i'd probably end up building train
bridges or something like that....  because trains is where it's at!

i just got my second deluxe track kit... i'm so very happy.
now i need to order 2 more boxes of switches and about 6-8 boxes of
straight... i definitly have enuf curved pcs.

Dave, I just got in. I've been working all weekend. I've read through your idea, and it is interesting. BUT i really wanna build a monkey. monkeys are hard. If you want to run a parallel game, that's fine by me. as always my "personal" rule is: If (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jun-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
