   a) One robot at a time, or races between two. (One/Two)

Two, but with individual timing as well like I suggested here.

   b) On table or on floor. Understand that the floor is dirty and may not be of even colour, texture or level. (Table/Floor)

Table (but one track or two?)

c) Allowed to stick out over edges on stopping/turning around if on a table? (Yes/No)

Yes...but only at the far end...as I really don’t see how this detracts from the game as faster speeds = more accelleration and greater velocity = longer stopping/reversing distances = more excitement as bots almost go off the edge (onto the soft pillow below, ‘natch).

d) Do you want the U-turn, or just a drag race straight? (Yes/No)

U-turn (Return to start zone)

e) Should start and stop distances vary during heats? (Yes/No)

Start should be fixed at the 18”. Stop can vary...that way a purely mechanical solution would still run (using the table edge to reverse, since acording to my c response hanging off the edge is OK...) but should take longer than an optical solution that is looking for the line.

Decisions I don’t think need to debated are:

1. Start method is manual based on a “go” from the judge/timer. I don’t want to preclude any solution with a IR command.

Agree...as I suggested here again to use a drag race/countdown tree start... But as I only own one RCX, I can’t voluneer to provide the timer bot...

(know I am newer to the group, but please consider the input..)

Okay, If you're building a robot for this, followup a post with: a) One robot at a time, or races between two. (One/Two) b) On table or on floor. Understand that the floor is dirty and may not be of even colour, texture or level. (Table/Floor) c) (...) (20 years ago, 28-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
