So the two options are 1) timed runs, best time (or best average x
times) wins or 2) head to head, first one across the finish line wins
and advances.
The problems (or advantage, depending on your perspective) with
head-to-head is getting a simultaneous start of both parties and
prevening false starts.
Kub Kars uses a gate that open for both at the same time, so there is
no "bad start" issue...it depends only on the Kar performance.
Real drag racing uses a light tree and relies on the reaction time of
the driver in addition to the car performance, and driver's shifting
skills.
Or we could do both at the same time!
Build up some sort of "light tree" countdown (
beep...beep...beep...beeeeeeeeeep) with a fancy laser pointer/light
sensor timer on the start/finish line to time each bot's (car's?) run
and detect false starts, but use two sets of tables and run them in
pairs.
Advance based on head to head, but also track individual performance times.
Thoughts?
