Re: [[[[The future dynamic of AFOL]]]]

I'm amazed at how far we've come already, from the humble beginings on alt.toys.lego. It's a shame nobody (that I know of, anyway) has an archive of alt.toys.lego or rec.toys.lego for comparative purposes. "Richard Noeckel" (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jul-01, to lugnet.org, lugnet.general)

Re: *New Brickfest Initial Interest Survey*

Hello all. After a wonderful response, I will be closing the LEGO® Brickfest™ Style Event Initial Interest Survey to further submissions. I will close down the site late tonight, so if you haven't yet weighed in with your opinion, please do so at (...) (...) Cool! Could you give me some help. I manage the LUG Map... (URL) I am not as up on Australian Geography as I probably should be.   *New Brickfest Initial Interest Survey*

Greetings all! Over in .events, several folks, especially us nutty West Coasters, have been seriously discussing the possibility of a new Brickfest-like event. I have posted a quick survey to help gauge folks level of interest in this idea. Please (...) (25 years ago, 16-Jul-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.announce, lugnet.events, lugnet.org) !

  [[[[The future dynamic of AFOL]]]]

(...) Big…really, I see it too! But ‘how big’? Are we to become like the masses of Trekies one day? To become a completely socially accepted hobby? Instead of the dynamic niche that we are today. I say ‘dynamic’ cause I believe we as a group have a (...) (25 years ago, 11-Jul-01, to lugnet.org, lugnet.general)

Re: some "mild" discrepancies in roll call....

(...) Wow 905% now thats a lot!!! ;-). Seriously this is good speculation Frank although I think there are probably still a few pockets in North America where organizations have yet to be formed like the Denver Colorado, Phoenix Arizona, Calgary (...) (25 years ago, 11-Jul-01, to lugnet.org)

Re: some "mild" discrepancies in roll call....

(...) I think we'll start seeing cross polination in the loc and org groups. The good thing about the volume these days is that probably 905% of North American AFOLs are within a 4 hour drive of enough people to at least occaisionally have a fest (...)   Re: some "mild" discrepancies in roll call....

(...) Disagree. The DC event (the first one ever held was in DC last year, IIRC) is "Brickfest". Legofest is a much broader term... Definition of Legofest varies depending on who you ask but is surely broader than your definition... My personal one (...)   Why can't Lego do this?

When I read about this on Slashdot, my first thought was "Why can't Lego make this same offer?" (URL) would say that Lego User Groups, and Lego Train Clubs do better marketing for Lego for free than anything that they could pay for. People remember (...)
