Another reason to avoid IE whenever possible.

(Disclaimer: the following info was given to me by an IT pro friend of mine, he’s smarter at this stuff than me, that’s why I listened to him. Why? Because he can hack, and occassionaly, does)

Listen, do you remember the reason for the big lawsuit no so very long ago. It was mostly because IE shared some of its integral funtions with Windows. you couldn’t get rid of IE (and you still can’t you can only hide it) and replace it with another browser, say Netscape. People argued this was anti competition. (this isn’t why I brought this up) The upside of this integration is it makes IE faster (many of the functions the program needs are already loaded in windows) but IE is now so interwoven with the OS that it’s not even funny. It doesn’t matter that you’re off line. It doesn’t matter if you’re hooked up to the internet or not. If you picked up the cookie through IE, it’s in the system. It’s in Windows. Are you getting why this is bad yet? In essence, it is possible for that cookie to talk to the OS.

So, if you use a third party browser, one that shares nothing with your OS that cookie, if it even loads (because it can check to see if you’re using IE or not) goes nowhere and does nothing.

There’s a bunch of free third party web browsers out there. Please, go pick one. Do it now. Go check this out. It’s a listing of third party browsers all free and non microsoft. Pick one, just try it. If you hate it and it doesn’t help the you can uninstall it. (another useful function that Microsoft can’t match with IE.) Why do you think there is so much noise against IE? Just because? Why do you think if you want to hack a machine the browser by which to get in is by IE?

I forgot to mention that the pop-ups occur even when I'm not online. Dave "Mark" <snowleopard@foxinternet.net> wrote in message news:IBqCty.MwB@lugnet.com... (...) woes.
