By the way, what is .Net anyhow?
In short, it's an application platform written for Windows. TrackDraw itself is
just a self-contained executable. Unlike traditional Windows applications, it
doesn't touch the registry.

I thought it was the latest name for SOAP (perhaps that explains the XML).
No, but .NET has excellent XML libraries. The XML format makes the TrackDraw
parts and layout easy to view and edit outside of the program.

And hey, since TrackDraw seems to import and export .DAT have you
given any thought to making an LDDP plugin DLL build target?
TrackDraw can save a layout as .DAT, so you can view it using MLCAD, for
instance. It can import one too (although I doubt there are that many layouts
saved as .DAT). The main motivation for reading .DAT is so that eventually I can
import baseplate printed patterns, but I haven't added that feature yet.

...
Oh, another idea.  I also saw Drag N Drop mentioned.  Is that just
for XML data, or could it be rigged to drop .LDR data like ldlist? ...
Drag-and-drop is one way to manipulate the track in the UI. It just means, like
most graphics programs, you can select track and drag it around with the mouse.
I haven't implemented any data exchange between applications via drag-and-drop
or copy-paste, yet, but it's on my list of things to do.

TrackDraw is a 2D program. TrackDraw can't import 3D objects, but it can save
the layout so that it can be read by a 3D LDraw-compatible program, and
subsequently be fed into LPub or POV-Ray and the like.
