oh dear, yup those were the days, writing simple batch files and people
calling you a programer.
my computers were organized and navigated with batch files since 92 because
windows was so slow (sorry apple folks, always worked on a pc though
sometimes for presentation on macs). i remember dragging most batch files to
win98 and running them succesfully!
i still use them for generating lists of what's where and simple renaming.
i burn them on cd's for simple navigation and installation jobs like a lot
of other folks.
you can connect them to html/javascript and get things done not directly
permitted from within html files.
. . . but for this job, well all my old ones that did similar things don't
work on xp (hm maybe a path to some hidden dos somewhere in some
win\command?
what did i use ctty con for? is this really 10 years ago?)
if it's less than 20 files, load something smart into the clipboard/to your
moustip and use wordpad or even word itself (edit/replace) if you use the
memory for one sort of change through all files and start all over for a
different line this can be quite fast, should be less than 10 minutes
(makros can do wonders here, well if you have say ten lines to change in a
hundred files even makros might take a while)
but i'd rather agree to suggest some fancy notepad clone. my favorite is
ultraedit. i often use this one to change links in a bunch of html files at
one mouse click and the 45 or something trial days should be enough to do
the job. now if i could only find the url all this text might be of some use
to somebody .
. . .
oh
. . . www.ultraedit.com . . .
well that was toooooo simple .
happy brickmess

| (...) Oh, I would usually scoff anyone who called themselves a programmer for having written batch code, but this stuff was fully fledged programming. My boss had me doing testing on a linker that was written for a DSP. It started as "maybe you (...) (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

There may be some batch commands you can use, but I'm not sure offhand-- I used to be somewhat of a whiz with Windows NT batch (1), but it's been a while... not to mention that I know Windows 95/98 didn't have the same functionality for "for" (...)
