Re: A new way for geeks to move around

(...) Andy Rooney allowed himself to be filmed on one for 60 Minutes tonight-- his mode of transportation at some auto show. It was excruciating to watch because it appeared as though he might keel over at any moment and break a hip or something. (...) (22 years ago, 8-Apr-02, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Help: in den Materialien 1.2767?

(...) The answers turned up. P20S, P576, Aluminum 7075. These are Werkstoff numbers used in Germany. I still lack an overview of this system... 1.2312 is P20S steel 40CrMnNiMo8-6-4 1.2767 is KE355 KE896 BS1407 P576 ISO4957 X45NiCrMo16 3.4365 is (...)   Help: in den Materialien 1.2767?

A diagram from a German engineering company indicates plates "aus vergetetem Stahl 1.2312" -- tempered steel 1.2312. Other parts are available "in den Materialien 1.2767 und 3.4365 erhaltlich". What is the system of these numbers? I am familiar with (...) (22 years ago, 3-Apr-02, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Couldn't resist bringing this to your attention(s)

(...) <sarcasm> For shame! That's TOTAL LANGUAGE LEARNING, don't you know? That's where it's about phonics and not about spelling or grammar. Grammar, pah, it's so passé--only people with NO LIVES care about others' grammar and spelling! </sarcasm> (...) (22 years ago, 3-Apr-02, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: lego turing machine

(...) I got to thinking, maybe this isn't so impossible after all. Imagine if you used 2x2 blocks with 2x2 tiles on top. Now you have something the RCX can lift. Run two pieces of train track parallel to each other, with four spots' width separating (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-02, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

  Re: lego turing machine

Hi JDF, Thanks for the feedback. I know it's not a Turing machine in the true sense, but let me tell you what I'm trying to do. At the moment I realize that I have built a sort of binary adder. But what I am currently implementing is a change in (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-02, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

  Re: lego turing machine

(...) An interesting idea, but the pedant and geek in me has to note that this isn't a Turing machine. Even ignoring Turing's original idea that the tape is infinite, the problem is that the Turing machine placed its output back on the tape. It (...)
