  Re: the moon

(...) That reminds me--I've got a couple of old school buddies to send birthday greetings to today. I could *never* remember their birthdays when we were kids. Steve (25 years ago, 13-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: the moon

(...) ?!? Wouldn't my eye simultaneously freeze and burn and explode and implode and turn to useless jelly from the exposure? Not that this effect is any different from watching the last Star Wars flick... :-P What's happening today on the moon? (...) (25 years ago, 13-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: the moon

(...) Perhaps we could send a warning to Commander Koneig? F (25 years ago, 13-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Everybody keep an eye on the moon today! (25 years ago, 13-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Xerox GUI ideas vs. Apple GUI ideas (Was: Perl rules!)

(...) searching. Now if only the Communications of the ACM were freely available online...! Anyone know what the heck "Interactions 1.3" is? Cheers, - jsproat (25 years ago, 9-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) You can say many things about Wired [1], but at least they have an online archive. The above is available at: -> (URL) Cheers, (...) :: paul [1] such as it's gone from being an essential geek read to far too business orientated and obsessed (...)   Xerox GUI ideas vs. Apple GUI ideas (Was: Perl rules!)

(...) I finally got around to remembering to report on this. Of all places, I saw this theory posed in (my autographed copy of :-) the book _Just Java_, 4th Edition by Peter van der Linden, on page 341 (light relief after chapter 13 on Applets). To (...)   Re: Datsville

(...) Check out SGI's web page with it turned on. I think it makes an example of good use. (25 years ago, 8-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Datsville

(...) This absolutely baffles me. Javascript was the original browser security hole, and even after dozens of revisions, it still causes more annoyance than usefulness. Yet so many people are so incredibly fond of it. :-P (...) That would be nice. (...) (25 years ago, 8-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Datsville

(...) Well, MediaOne, for a while. I don't use them as my home page (duh) but if I wanted information on anything, that was annoying. SGI's site doesn't _require_ javascript, but it's a lot nicer with. There's others. I wish there were better (...) (25 years ago, 8-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Datsville

(...) Like who? They don't get my visit. But I've never had a problem. If a site requires more than basic HTML, I find that life actually becomes easier if I avoid it. Cheers, - jsproat (25 years ago, 7-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Datsville

(...) Unfortunately, a lot of sites are becoming javascript-dependent. The hassle of having javascript turned off is worse than that of having it turned on. (25 years ago, 7-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Datsville

(...) Turn off Javascript. There will be no pop-up windows with Javascript turned off. Cheers, - jsproat (25 years ago, 7-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Op een zekere dag, te weten Mon, 6 Sep 1999 06:41:35 GMT, klom "Sproaticus" <jsproat@io.com> in het toetsenbord en schreef ons: (...) Yeah, they're beautiful.   The Pleiades

Wow. It's after midnight and I'm walking my dog, in what must be some of the thickest light pollution in which one can see stars, when I glance at something I've never noticed before, just above the east horizon. The Pleiades were just bright (...) (25 years ago, 6-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) I'm with ya. OK, lemme practice. Ahem. :'] ___...___begin rant___...___ Microsoft Internet Explorer is a rickety, rotten, bug-infested, malodorous cesspool of filth, coughed up like a steaming pus-infected hairball from the collective bellies (...)   Re: MSIE5 security hole

(...) I wonder why so many people have a hard time telling I'm being sarcastic and so many others don't? I think most people get it IRL. In fact, I know they do. :) (25 years ago, 3-Sep-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.publish)

  Re: MSIE5 security hole

(...) Heh. You're not disagreeing with what I meant, just what I said. I think Communicator 4.5 on is a pile of garbage. If I ever see another stupid bug report window pop up within 30 seconds of running their stupid product I'll never bother trying (...)
