Hehe. Once I was speaking to someone about a URL, and instead of saying "double-you double-you double-you" or "triple dub" she said "wuh-wuh-wuh." ~Mark (...) around (...) "web" to (...) on "web" (...) dot org (...) double-yoo (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  HTML 4.0

does anyone here make sure their webpages are HTML 4.0 compliant (lugnet isn't, btw ;) )? is it worth the time/effort? using style sheets sounds like a really neat idea, but it isn't fun converting a lot of poorly created sites. my new employer has (...)   Re: Bad Choices

(...) People here at Boston University say "edjoo". And the domain has been around since 1986, so it's likely they know. :) It's so much less work to say. And look at usenet: no one calls the comp hierarchy the see oh em pee hierarchy, for example. (...) (24 years ago, 23-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Good, good, I'm not alone :-0 And Todd says U-R-L too! hehe... that makes the difference. ;-) FTR, I say e-d-u!! -Shiri (24 years ago, 23-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Bad Choices

(...) ick! URL, no way, u-r-l :) I say both "scsi" and S-C-S-I... the one that gets to me is "edu" (ed-you) instead of e-d-u :) (24 years ago, 23-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Bad Choices

(...) AFAIK, U-R-L ("Yoo Arr Ell") is the right way -- but people sometimes say "url" (like "duke of url" ;-) if they want to be cutesey or funny. I've never heard anyone say "url" unless they were ready to duck. :-) --Todd (24 years ago, 23-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Bad Choices

(...) BTW... after talking to some people on the phone yesterday, I realized that I might be saying URL the wrong way... I say it U-R-L but some people say "url" (rhymes with girl)... Or do they? :-) -Shiri (24 years ago, 23-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Sounds to me like you may want to reinstall whatever OS you are currently running. Or you may try to use a more stable OS, if available. (FU: off-topic.geek) Fredrik (24 years ago, 23-Jun-00, to lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: VT100 over the web

(...) I have a few thoughts about this. If the telnet / VT100 throughput has a well- defined format, then such a gateway could use expect (or something like it) and serve HTML forms instead of relying upon the user to enter keystrokes.   Re: Web hosting

(...) Superuser.net in VA is pretty good. I'm working on a project here with good results. $10 a month will get you 100MB of space, unlimited transfers, shell and ftp access, cgi, ssi, anon ftp, sql, etc... There's also no setup fee.
