(...) Don't forget Pokemon (PO_c_KE_t MON_ster) :) <ducks> seriously, though... lots of things that we encounter every day are acronyms, even if their original meaning has been forgotten by most people... two examples I can think of off the top of (...)   What makes an acronym (was: Re: quick question)

(...) Just a friendly nit to pick... :) Acronyms don't actually have to be words which come from only single letters (such as scuba = _s_elf _c_ontained _u_nderwater _b_reating _a_pparatus), but can actually pull multiple letters from words. An (...) (25 years ago, 15-Mar-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Cleaning up the main homepage

(...) XV Rules! I do like the GIMP but for some things there is absolutely no substitute for XV. The color editor and visual browser functionality is unmatched. I even wrote some of my own filters for XV for cleaning up mars images. Someone else (...) (25 years ago, 13-Mar-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Servlet security?!?

Does anyone have any experience with the Java Servlet API, eps. with the HttpSession.putValue() function? It seems that *any* Java object may be bound to an HTTP session by placing it in the key/value set of the HttpSession object. However, the (...) (25 years ago, 12-Mar-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Hotmail account with new stuff

(...) Yeah. I keep pointing at the 'insert address' button, where 'send' used to be ;-) The only thing I like about it is the Bulk mail thingie. It's about time I stop getting the amount of trash I do. The only address I care about that isn't (...) (25 years ago, 11-Mar-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Hotmail account with new stuff

(...) Not really much of a surprise - they did the same thing with Windows 2000. Oh, and the MCSE certification - changing the "retire things that are 2 versions old" plan just to try to force people to upgrade. I'll still be supporting Windows NT (...)   Re: Hotmail account with new stuff

Typical M$ to change the interface, then tell us that the changes are what we want. I won't complain too loud (it's free, after all) but it's maddening to just get used to the way it works, then BAM! Totally different GUI. -Cheese (...) (25 years ago, 10-Mar-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
