In case you didn't see, Axel provided a link to a QuickTime movie record of the
unfolding of the LRV during Apollo 15.

It looks like the LRV was both "in" and "on". Half of the rover's bottom seems
to be used as the cover for the compartment the rover was stored in. So
technically, the LRV was outside the LM, but in a recessed area.
