Hello, my name is Scott and I am a Legoholic.  Since my obsession with Lego
begun I lost friends, all my money, and I almost lost my family.

Really though, is there any kind of clinic for people with this disorder,
Forget Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, I need Legoholics
Anonymous.  We need a simple ten step program that operates one day at a • time.

Is there anyone out there like me? I feel so alone.

I've experienced the same problem as you.  In the second half of '99 I've
spent about 99% of my free time doing lego-related activities like building,
sorting, looking at catalogs, reading lugnet, buying on eBay, going to TRU,
etc.  It was the same thing every day coming home from work and building with
lego until I went to sleep and on the weekends the same thing.  After about 5
months I got so sick of it that just looking at Lego was very depressing and
the answer was to ebay it all off.  It was not a money problem but a mental
problem.  I think the answer is to balance Lego with other things.  Too much
of anything is not good, even Lego.  After this experience I made a commitment
not to buy more than one set every couple months.

I came out of my dark ages back in the summer of 98 and started a buying frenzy
that Fall that lasted into early January '99. I built a pretty impressive
Pirate collection from scratch, and picked up a few Town sets. Then the burnout
came. I packed up everything and put it in storage, I didn't want to see
another brick. It wasn't as hard as I thought though, with the debut of the
disappointing 1999 releases (and now 2000). I didn't want to buy the crap
anyway.

I started buying again last summer, picking up a few of the Star Wars sets,
then got back into the full-swing of things in the Fall, concentrating on
building a Town collection. And to make the hobby more self-sufficient I've
taken on the responsibilities of seller and shipper. But I think there is just
not enough building/playing. I get a set, and the most fun I have is marking it
off the list. It's probably time to take another 5 or 6 month hiatus.

But I'll take solace in the fact that I've got a huge back log of sealed sets
(probably 150+ sets, over half of my collection) I still get to build. And with
the UCS Star Wars sets and LEGO Direct on the horizon, there's something to
look forward to when I come back to the brick.
