Re: SNOW (was funny ebay auction)

(...) Yup, I know. She was wondering how we could possibly call (and I quote) "a mere -20" cold, and claimed that if she could see over the snowbanks, winter wasn't there yet. Winterpegians are twisted, evil things. ;) James (URL) (24 years ago, 26-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: SNOW (was funny ebay auction)

(...) Don't worry, the biggest shock I ever got was in '97. I left Victoria on the 15th of Jan, went home via "The Canadian" (quite nice, and relatively cheap for a under 25er). Got on in Vancouver, it was +10C and raining, got off in LongLac (...) (24 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) This can't be true story... I've been to Thunder Bay - it isn't near anything. <grin, duck> James (URL) (24 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: SNOW (was funny ebay auction)

(...) That is just flat out not true. It is too "near something"... near the end of the earth. We (my inlaws and their friends) own a cabin (well, technically 99 year crown lease) at mile 180 1/2 Algoma Central railway. That's a wayback spot, you (...)   Re: SNOW (was funny ebay auction)

(...) Neh, just get those snazzy satellite phones. We're going to have to start burrowing (lugnet.underground) or flying (lugnet.space) if we want to get away, soon enough. best, Lindsay (who agrees that Thunder Bay is pretty doggone remote.) (24 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) anything. No, LongLac is 'near' Thunder Bay, its about 3 hours away...and it is as close as you can get by train to TB now... (...) :) ROFL! (...) James (who has spent too many hours driving from Thunder Bay home...) (24 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: SNOW (was funny ebay auction)

(...) Nah, you must be misteaken. Thunder Bay isn't near Yellowknife. ;) (...) Cool. We have one of those too, except ours isn't quite so remote - just a 15 minute hike from the nearest highway (or a half-hour paddle across the lake). Running water (...)   Re: SNOW (was funny ebay auction)

(...) I'm just waiting for work to give me a pager on a weekend I go caving... I'd have to pick the muddiest cave possible and see of the pager even survives... (24 years ago, 2-Feb-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Electronics and harsh environments (was Re: SNOW (was funny ebay auction)

(...) That remindes me of a story, which, since I am on hold at eTrade, I will bore you with. Herewith follows my tale. As many of you know, I carry a Nextel cell phone (1). Nextel markets to a number of segments... what hooked me was the no roaming (...) (24 years ago, 2-Feb-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) we're taking the Boy Scout troop to what they call "cave slimey" next month; the boys who went last time are saying "bring throw-away clothes." sounds like just the ticket! -Steven (URL) (24 years ago, 2-Feb-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: SNOW (was funny ebay auction)

(...) Hey Guys! There is a cave near here that has a 250 foot entrance pit if you want to shock test the phones < grin> John (24 years ago, 2-Feb-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
