I wish the market would verify that.

score and all it proves is that I am good at taking tests, can do math • problems
quickly, and have a large vocabulary.

This last attribute is under-understood and under-emphasized in my opinion.  I
think the single most important thing that parents can do for their childrens'
academic future is be sure that they are exposed early and often to a huge
vocabulary.  Aside from giving them lots of known words, it gets them in the
habit of being exposed to things they don't know and asking or looking up the
answers.  That is tremendously important.  I see people all the time let words,
concepts, explanations, etc. slide in and out of their brain without
understanding them and without questioning.  Vocabulary exposure, I believe,
also creates a broader context in which people can incorporate new ideas.  You
can think about more concepts if you have more words with which to describe
your thoughts.

To properly evaluate a prospective
freshman you need to look at tests, grades, AND extracurricular activities.

And extracurriculars are not just school-affliated activities.  My only
school-related extracurricular was chess club, but I worked, read widely,
computed, etc., all of which were valuable to my college experience.

Montessori is aces in my book, both my children benefitted greatly from it and
I really feel we got our money's worth.

Good.  I haven't found anyone who's been disappointed by the method.  My son's
current school goes through 3rd grade, but there's another local school,
Princeton Montessori, that goes through sixth or eighth which we may
investigate in a couple years.

(...) Whew. That was a long post. Thoroughly enjoyable reading, it's always a joy to see a well written refutation that skewers something point by point.
