Time Warner Cable was unable to get Disney to sign a contract to allow the
cable broadcasting of ABC local channesl.  Not a smart move for Disney during
sweeps month, especially in a market as large as NYC.

Ya, I'd say government fostered cable monopolies aren't serving the customer
interest very well, are they? If Time Warner had some competition in their
markets other than rabbit ears perhaps they wouldn't have the chutzpah to
point fingers at Disney... If Time Warner hadn't also lobbied to ban
satellites from carrying local channels, perhaps consumers would have more
choices at least in some markets.

Larry, you're pointing all the fingers at Time Warner - Disney wants
$300,000,000!!!!   In order for Time Warner to be able to carry the local ABC
channels, Disney is insisting that Time Warner carry their new Cartoon and Soap
opera channels and make the Disney Channel part of basic cable (it is now a
premium channel).  So in addition to paying $300,000,000, they are supposed to
lose the revenue they receive from the Disney Channel as a premium channel.
Guess who's going to end up paying for that?  The cable subscribers.  Guess
who's going to end up looking bad to their customers because of a rate hike -
Time Warner.

It amounts to blackmail from those family friendly people at Disney.
