But theres a difference between some extremists committing violence and a
crowd of 15,000 attacking an embassy because a government wont silence and
punish a newspaper for exercising their right to satire. That is what sets
this a part from every other act of violence you listed: the totally
surreal justification for it.

Like thousands rioting in LA because a court ruling didnt go the way they
wanted? I seem to recall about 50 killed, was that justified? Mob rule can
do some strange things to people.

Fair enough - that was a pretty lame reason to riot. I remember my High
School shutting off access to cable and radio when the verdict was read
during the OJ Simpson trial in case there was problems. Pretty lame and
unjustified if you ask me.

The trial of the officers who beat Rodney King (I have no idea why you are
referencing the O.J. Simpson trial) was such a farce that feds brought them up
on federal charges (and ran a competent trial) as fast as they could.
The riot ensued because it was simply the straw that broke the camels back due
to an accumulation of events (and one that I accurately predicted would happen
following the Latasha Harlins murder trail). When a segment of society is
convinced that they cant get justice from the justice system, then they are
much more likely to step outside that system (I am merely making an observation,
not a judgment).
In regards to the O.J. Simpson trial, I suppose perhaps we should have rioted
over an incompetent prosecution team getting bonuses...
As to the cartoons and protests - sooner or later the Islamic world is going to
have to face down their own extremists or they will be devoured by them.
