What irked me so much was that some of the

Our community fair has an actual Lego-specific competion among the other
arts & Crafts type competitions. The rules specifically state that it must
be an ORIGINAL creation. The problem is that the "Judges" have no knowledge
of Lego, or what the sets actually look like. This was probably the case
where you are, they probably didn't realize that it was a store-bought set.
Ours worked out well, with no store bought sets even being entered. But
then the organizers atleast had the brains to ask someone before the judging
if anything there looked like an existing set! (They asked ME!)
But then, I AM on the organizing committee meself! And I had to alter the
rules just so that i could get my entry in! (Nothing shady, honest! They
had a size limitation for all of the arts and crafts that had to be
"adjusted" so that I could enter my rather large vehicle!)
My suggestion would be to build something spectacular for next year, and
have all your local friends do the same. That way, none of the cheesy sets
will be able to win. This was the first year for ours, and it was very
small. But hopefully next year's will be better, since the cool stuff I
brought was well received, and will hopefully inspire more people next year!
Well, it's late, and i'm babbling, so I guess i'll go for now...
