Has the world gone mad?!? —James Jackson
I went to the Mid-South Fair in Memphis. In the arts & crafts pavillion, they have a section where people (mostly kids) make art out of toys. (Most of the case was Legos.) What irked me so much was that some of the sets receiving ribbons and prizes (...) (25 years ago, 3-Oct-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.loc.us.tn.mem, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.us.tn)

Re: Has the world gone mad?!? —Tamyra Teed
You are seeing Judges that aren't up on what Lego has brought out as stock models, that's where the problem comes in... they probably don't know that what the kids did wasn't their own creation made from the Lego... it's sad to see that stock Lego (...)          Re: Has the world gone mad?!? —Steve Bliss
(...) I haven't seen a LEGO commercial in years. I don't watch TV at the right time, I guess. Even so, in any competition involving construction toys, the judges should have some knowledge of what the commercial offerings are. If there was at least (...)      That does sound mad.... Insectoids winning a prize. I would have laughed out load if a classic space set had beaten all that new stuff! Scott A (URL) (25 years ago, 4-Oct-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.loc.us.tn.mem, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.us.tn)

I saw the same thing at a Genesee County Fair on the outskirts of Flint, Michigan. I don't know who sponsored it, but there were a few creations that were just the sets.
