  The 1st....

Here's a topic for your consideration-- I'm reading some other NG's, and there's a hotly debated issue--the NG is privately owned by the web owners, and, as such, they believe they can edit the content of posted messages for language and other (...)   Re: The 1st....

(...) Seems pretty cut and dried to me. What rights did the posters purchase from the owner of the publishing venue (the owner of the privately owned BB)? Assuming the owner is in the US that's all that matters, posters nationality is irrelevant. (...) (21 years ago, 29-Oct-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: The 1st....

(...) Very likely, yes. Journalists are known to edit interviews and such. The problem becomes one of who owns the forum versus misrepresenting someone's views. I'd say that it might be actionable if someone's views are savagely distorted and have (...) (21 years ago, 29-Oct-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: The 1st....

(...) I read a "Misanthropic Bitch" article once in which she wrote an article for the school paper--the paper's editor edited her article to the point where it stated the opposite of her intent. Maybe I'll try to dig it up. (...) A good topic for (...) (21 years ago, 29-Oct-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

(...) It's the owners board - they are not obligated to allow you to use it as a sounding board, unless they have specifically stated otherwise (TOS, possibly for a fee). Personally, I wouldn't participate in a service that did editing. (...) If the (...) (21 years ago, 29-Oct-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) Maybe she became: (URL) Honey Hellfire> on (URL) Radio Free Satan>! Anyway, some of these are news/opinion/blog sites right? I don't see discussion forums in all cases... -- Hop-Frog (21 years ago, 29-Oct-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: The 1st....

(...) Sorry--you're right--TMB is a blog, my bad... there was a discussion group at one time, but I don't think it's up now. The rest have discussions on specific posts--basically receeding posts... And the DU has the same. I think the rest have (...) (21 years ago, 29-Oct-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
