LOL... "you suggest I look at something else..." Well, yeah!!! ;) Nah,
see the real problem is that I didn't choose it, my parents just signed us
up--for a year. So you see why I'm bitter. We're stuck with it for another
8 months. Ordinarily, I've never needed to configure anything either (dhcp,
like you said, though I prefer to assign local IP addy's so I can port
forward from the router), but yahoo uses PPPoE, so to connect, you have to
use a login and password. And the only way to get that login and password
is to jump through all the hoops of the installation software.
I'll be honest--once you've got it all setup (and you've removed all the
yahoo crud that you had to install) the connection is decent. I'm just mad
at them for what I had to go through to get it, and I'm mad at them for all
the other people who now run all that extra useless software because they
don't know they don't have to. Yahoo dsl forces you to use a special Yahoo
web browser (assuming you don't uninstall it like I did). Nice, huh? It
may as well be AOL...
Yeah, with the router, we have 4 computers online at once too. I love
having my own linux server. Like you said, unlimited web hosting.
