First, that there is a coalition of any consequences is laughable. Really it’s just the U.S. and England.

For my part, I think Blair is being dictated to by the power brokers in his country -- things *might* have been far different if Gore had been appointed president instead. The democrats are not quite the whores to corporations that the republicans turn out to be.

All politicians are whores to a certain extent, Republicans to corporations, especially tobacco and guns; Democrats to lawyers, Hollywood, and the many environmental activist groups.

BTW, I was somewhat annoyed with the “conspiracy” angle of your post. As I have pointed out ad nauseam before: what human activity takes place in a social vacuum? Right, none. Conspiracy might be going too far -- but these big oil concerns sure do like making money on unbid contracts. Just as Enron enjoyed a “hands off” policy while it raped the 3rd World and portions of the U.S. for their riches. Worldcom sure likes the kid glove treatment from the SEC.

Or perhaps you are forgetting the corporate accountability bill that was passed, you are correct these corrupt executives need to be severely punished, problem is they are pretty good at what they do, much like Hussein they are able to hide things well (alright I couldn’t resist that jab). Too bad the case against these two is not as easily pieced together as the Martha Stewart case.

A conspiracy is hardly necessary in an atmosphere where a little money rightly placed and well-timed means everything in Washington. Frankly, I’d like to see national and multi-national corporations under the yoke of something as restrictive as the Patriot Act is in relation to individuals -- and with greater cause, after all corporations are not even natural persons. Corporations are just legal fictions -- easy ways to make money and limit liability.

Use whatever term you want, conspiracy, collusion, secret meetings, either way it means the same thing. My post was trying to illustrate the beliefs in a hidden agenda in all of Bush’s actions. Yes I was playing up the conspiracy angle, but I also got all those theories directly from others here on OTD.

BTW, when is it convenient for you that I out you as a closet socialist? The public Costello is a straight arrow conservative towing the party line and using the party rhetoric and jargon. The private Costello is part of a socialistic religious cult. How convenient for you. The best (or worst) of both worlds...no wonder you hate taxes so much (not that I like them, mind you). You pay twice: once to Uncle Sam and then again as a 10% tithe. I guess you were right, you are not strictly republican, the “two faces” of Costello are so hard to reconcile.

Ouch, that really hurts, froggy is calling me a socialist, I would rather you called me a moron like you call Bush :). You do have a great point, and I do have a really hard time with the old Mormon communal groups. The New Order was a type of communism long before Karl Marx published it. And yes, I am broke by paying not only Federal, State and local taxes, but also my 10% tithing. Here, however, is the key difference, this whole thing is voluntary, if I do not want to tithe to the church, I can chose not to, those who did not wish to live under the New Order were not compelled to, it was up to them. If I decide tomorrow that I do not want to pay income tax I risk men with guns taking me forcefully from my home and detaining me in prison, hardly a fair comparison.

I do tend to sound a bit more conservative on these boards than I am in real life, but I chock that up to reaction to all the liberalism I see. You should hear me get into it with my boss who is a hard core, down the line Republican, froggy even you would be proud :).
