Re: Excellent summation of truths and falsehoods about our little war

A lot of that stuff is still hotly debated, Larry. Those are not precisely facts; and it's not as if Buckley doesn't wear his political leanings pinned to his chest. ::cough:: right-wing::cough:: A lot of it was straw man stuff -- easy targets (...)   Which was better? Was Re: Excellent summation of truths and falsehoods about our little war

(...) Was the movie with Sting better than the William Hurt 'Made for TV' mini-series? I liked the mini-series better myself--the 'thopers alone! Though Jean Juc was in the movie--"I thought you were dead" :) Dave K (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) I've only seen the former. The fact that you call it "the movie with Sting" sort of sums it up. ;) I'm sure I liked it at the time [I was 16]; but it's not stood the test of time all that well. Scott A (...) (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) mini-series? (...) The Lynch movie captured the atmosphere much, much, much better though it certainly has it's own array of faults. I couldn't finish the miniseries, I hated it so much! Really, the book is too complicated to easily convert to (...) (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) I'm a big Lynch fan, so it was weird for me to see Jeffrey Beaumont riding a big worm. I like a lot of the movie, but I've never been able to get through the books, I'm afraid. (...) Something about William Hurt fills me with such aching (...) (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Dune (was: Which was better? was: Excellent summation of truths and falsehoods about...)

(...) I liked the miniseries better(1); the length let it cover much much more of the plot. David Lynch (Baz Luhrman, too) tends to make movies that make me think "Wow, that was really cool. Didn't make sense, but it was cool." - and his version of (...) (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) I got 50ish pages into 'Children of Dune' and absolutely hated it. I thought that Dune and CoD were written by two completely different people. Then I went and read Foundation all over again and thought that this would make a great (...) (22 years ago, 24-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
