Yes, that's the one. The opening credits had a voice over along the lines of:
"We were having a veterans parade when some darn kids were playing." [kids
drive remote control car next to missle truck. Missle rasies and launches.]
"All of the counter attack measures worked perfectly and the world was wiped
out. I was in my Volvo when it happened." [Guy is at the bank and everything
around him vaporizes and he gets a grey streak in his hair] "I eventually found
a farm in a valley that had escaped destruction and met the handful of people
who survived."
Part way through the first episode: "So how did you survive?" "Volvo." "Good
car."
