But not always, regrettably. Yes, I agree. It is good to be able to remind
people that debate involves reason or it isn't debate. Interesting
discussion perhaps but not debate.
We have a number of high quality debaters here and I think we all enjoy
discussing things amongst ourselves (if I may be so bold as to include
myself), but as you say, we also have some that are not quite up to the same
level and discourse with them is rather less enjoyable. (except perhaps on
different levels, such as those that give enjoyment in seeing demolition
derby matches)
Note that being a good debater does not necessarily make one a good person
in and of itself, nor is the converse true. There are many good people here
and elsewhere that aren't good reasoners or good debaters.
