Re: What we can do... (my 2 cents)

(...) I believe the mizzen mast was lateen rigged on the Nina, as on many ships until the gaff-rigged sail comes along (ahhh, the Armada Flagship, now available from Lego S@H). I love putting lateen sails on my Lego ships - I keep meaning to cut my (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.loc.pt, lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.pirates)

  Re: The big lie

(...) My mistake. 1st point I don't feel I twist your words, but I think you do twist my own. The way you do this is to quote me out of context. 2nd point. I did not say wars could not be fought without death did I? (...) I don't follow. (...) (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Debunk this?

(...) What is your point? Are you saying the none of the land Israel is on legally belongs to them. I agree that some of it does not, but I am pretty sure some of it does. Scott A (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Debunk this?

(...) I don't think you have to *read* it to decide if you agree with the general idea or not, that the UN had the power to decide that Palestine was to be partitioned, and designated each partition as a homeland for someone. I'm not sure I agree (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: The big lie

(...) Well, that's why I brought it up in the first place... There are people working to try to influence the legislature NOT to do that. But in a time of hysteria, when laws are made up in one day and then passed that same day or the next by (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: 6776... Is this True?

(...) Yes, but Union vs. Indians has a clear adverserial implication. It might not offend you or I, but how would a Native American kid feel about it? (...) But that is very simplified history. Our country should absolutely be appalled at the crimes (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: 6776... Is this True?

(...) Union vs. Indians = White vs. Black. Chess sets have always had two sides. Neither color was ever considered good or bad. Why does a Chess set with two opposing sides mean that anyone in particular is bad/wrong. The union and the indians DID (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Debunk this?

(...) I fear I have allowed myself to be misunderstood. I was a little bemused by that news story – it shows a degree of clumsiness on both sides. However, as Mr Straw was visiting the Middle East to speak Iran, I am sure it was not detrimental to (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: War

(...) I was a little bemused at the response to that. QT audiences are usually selected to represent UK political opinion. If the BBC did do that, they can hardly complain at the outcome! I agreed with a good deal of what was said – I just did not (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: The big lie

(...) Lack of the "usual standard" does not equal "no standard". Lifting the "current restriction" does not equal "no restriction". But even if you paranoia was well founded (I don't mean the stuff about the black helicopters). Surely you (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Thinking Out Loud...

(...) In the former quote above he calls for restraint. In the latter quote above he can't wait for action. Read his latter comments in context: ==+== The aggressor has made the mistake of attacking the homeland. They will pay. If I were Saddam (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: War

(...) how (...) internal (...) I never said I know what to fix, or that the debate was needless. You said now is not the time for examining policies, I think it is, whether or not other action is taken concurrently. (...) Sure. I just disagree with (...)   Re: Special Identification for Arab Americans?

Hello Larry, (...) To me, it seems they are also islamistic, so whatever government they could come up with will probably not be fair to our standards. The question of course is: Does it have to? Or is it enough they don't support international (...) (23 years ago, 26-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: What we can do... (my 2 cents)

(...) All true... but I still believe that the concept behind the lateen sail (triangle + rotation around mast) allowed travelling against the wind, unlike square sails - better for back-winds (no pun intended). And I'm not sure if ALL the sails in (...) (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.loc.pt, lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: What we can do... (my 2 cents)

(...) Agree. I would suggest that the Arab influence on western culture is best noted in Iberian cultures (Spain and Portugal), since the Arab presence on the Peninsula lasted some 781 years. In fact, it ended shortly before Columbus reached America (...) (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: What we can do...

(...) Yup. (...) Well, how about Arab History Month? The Arabs have made abundant contributions to civilization throughout history in areas such as mathematics, astronomy, medicine, engineering, architecture, art, philosophy, music, literature, and (...)   Re: A request for peace.

I want to thank you all for your support. I was truely surprised to find out how well "spotlighted" my article was! Well, as an update, the President hasn't responded, but he still hasn't bombed anyone either, so maybe it helped. -Alfred (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

"Scott A" <eh105jb@mx1.pair.com> wrote in message news:GKBx4v.AL2@lugnet.com... (...) Is it possible to find an 'independent' source of news?
