The chassis/suspension of the 4404 is built separately from the body.
In that way, it nearly mimicks real pick-up trucks that are built
body on frame. I think the challenge would be to rebuild the chassis
to incorporate a drivetrain, rear live-axle suspension, and steering,
while allowing it to fit under the original 4404 body (which IS beautiful).

It reminds me in a lot of ways of Tamiyas classic radio-controlled Toyota 4x4
Pickup (later called the Bruiser and then the Mountaineer), which was built
in the same way; a scale chassis and the body on top. Tamiyas set used the
ladder chassis with proper live axles front and rear and a central transfer
gearbox and so on, and as John said, this would be a great challenge to recreate
on the Lego model. Shop at Home lists it at about 45 UKP, which is quite a lot
after just buying 8455!

| (...) Hi Max The 4404 has 4-wheel independent suspension as part of the set. The components are nearly identical to the suspension in set 8465 (URL) except that there is NO steering. However, if you have the 8465 set, you should be able to easily (...) (21 years ago, 25-Jul-03, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.modelteam, FTX)
