After much experimenting, I have decided recently to start +everything+
at 1.00. I beleive that overall that gives me the best return and it
gives bidders a fair chance to get a bargain once in a while (like the
guy who won four cannon including wheels and trailer hitch recently for
$2.50 or so). Even for a big set it's OK - the 2150 I started at 1.00
finished at $167 or so.
Starting things low gets people interested and once they have bid on
something at a low level they are more likely to keep bidding on it. If
there are several of the same set competing (as with 8880) it's an even
better idea because people will often bid on the lowest priced
alternative (so they'll bid on yours rather than the one which starts at
$50) and then they are less likey to bid on another one at the same
time.
Now, this is all true for me in North America. You do have the handicap
of the high shipping cost to take into account so I don't know whether
it would still hold.
