Any 'sale starting now' announcement is going to be "unfair" to the people who
don't see it right away. If you want to give everyone equal opportunity to
react, then use one of: an auction (with a reasonable time frame), a 'best
offer by' sale, or a 'first-come, first-serve' sale that is announced ahead of
time.
Each method has pluses & minuses, and they've been discussed around here
before, but a brief sum-up:
Auction: It's the most fair (in a 'gives everyone a chance, and best
determines fair market value' kind of way.)
FC,FS sale: Fast. As soon as someone responds, boom! Sold. Has the drawback
of requiring some market research to get best value.
BOB sale: Workable compromise.
