I noticed on anotehr seller's eBay auctions that they charge a 50c "Self insurance" fee on each package, and promise to refund up to $50 if the package is lost. This seems like an interesting idea since most of my packages go out at the "Small (...) (24 years ago, 23-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.theory, lugnet.market.shipping)

(...) I think it's a reasonable idea. As Ray mentions, that's a cheaper rate than the USPS charges. Of course, my feeling is that a buisiness would score points for eating the cost out of their proffits. As a buyer, I've sort of felt that I really (...) (...) The possible risk is that the evil buyer receives the parcel but pretends they don't. They end up with the set and the $50. (...) Actually, the mechanism to insure the parcel and the mechanism to confirm delivery are different. The USPS even charges seperate fees for each. Ray suggested using DC but my situation is that I'm in Canada and sending Small Packet packages to the US and overseas: I *cannot* buy insurance (or, to my knowlege, DC) on a Small Packet.
