Lego imports into the US duty free. Someone on Lugnet dug up the US customs reference on their webpage. If you search for lego and customs in the same search string I bet you will find it. Can't say for Canada. (25 years ago, 20-Oct-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

(...) Torsten, That is one of the reasons the shipping costs are so high. The charges for Customs and import taxes are including in shipping. (...) Really? I thought you only paid sales tax if you live in that state, say I bought an item from Michigan, where I reside, from a Michigan distributor. I'm not Larry and don't play him on the internet :^) The way I understand it, currently and in MN, is that any mailorder purchases where the MN sales tax is not collected you are supposed to pay a "use tax" that happens (...) In at least MI, NY and FL, there is putatively a "use tax" that you owe on purchases made out of state, and there is an official form to pay it which can be attached to your income tax return (in the MI and NY cases) or sent in with a check (since (...)
