I left five of them and I paid 16 pounds each.  I left the five most beat • up
sets in the lot.  I don't know if 16 pounds is a good deal or not but since
they are virtually impossible to come by in the US I really didn't worry • too
much about the price.  What did the starter set sell for when it was
originally available?

Following up on my own post.

I am finally back in North Carolina and just had a chance to go through the
six World Cup starter sets I purchased in the UK.  As I mentioned in an
earlier post, what a grab bag!  From the six sets I have enough components
to have five (5) complete sets.  The sets were all mixed up, two of the
goals were in one box and another box had none (lucky on this one).  One box
had two sets of field bases
(http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=3302-1) so I definitely have one
extra set of those.  I also ended up with seven extra World players
(http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=3305-1) but was missing two
England players but I fortunately have some extra of those from an earlier
deal.  Lastly, I ended up with an extra set of stickers that I can only
assume are the Scotland stickers.  These stickers have a ball overlapping a
blue flag with a white X on it.  Can someone identify these?  So, net-net, I
need one set of goalies (http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=3306-1)
and the Merlin cards to complete the sixth set.  I am not to woried about
the Merlin cards but the set definitely needs the goalies.

Thanks,

Mike

(...) You paid £16 each for these sets - do you know you can claim the VAT back by filling in the appropiate form - might be a bit late now but useful in the future when you come back - you can reclaim one-sixth of the cost per item.
