That's what I figured. I will take the receipt on Saturday and ask the
clerk anyway, but I feared there would be little they would/could do.

I've heard this also. One buyer described this more as shipping
confirmation than delivery confirmation. I don't need shipping confirmation
for my own peace of mind - I get itemized receipts that show pretty clearly
where I mailed packages to and that's enough for me (and considering in all
the years I've done this I have never mailed two packages to the same city,
state, and zip on the same day I'd hope it would be enough "proof" for any
buyer).

I've considered the thought of going with confirmation on every order, and
if it were TRUE delivery confirmation I might do it. But since it isn't I
can't see eating 40 cents on an average $10 order just for a little more
personalized proof of shipping. And I can't see insisting on it as an added
cost for the buyer on every order - with this possibly being the second
package that has gone awol in several years that wouldn't be smart
odds-wise, and it wouldn't be smart business-wise. I probably lose enough
potential business only doing priority mail as it is.

I'll have to look into that. I have very few heavy packages (>2 lbs) -
probably less than 5% of my overall shipping total. I'll check their page
for pricing - my only concern would be the FedEx centers I know of in town
are VERY far away, whereas the post office I use (not the closest one, but
it is the main one for the region, so things leave directly from there) is
only 4 miles away.
