  Re: Registered Mail went missing!

(...) Actually, all one has is proof of sending something. FUT: lugnet.market.shipping (23 years ago, 2-Apr-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.shipping)

  Re: Registered Mail went missing!

(...) I am not an expert on this and did NOT research the facts, but I am pretty sure that sending US currency in the mail to a foreign country is NOT legal. This does not mean to imply that there are any penalties--I do not know, but it does mean (...) (23 years ago, 2-Apr-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.shipping)

  Re: Registered Mail went missing!

(...) USPS Form 542: "Inquiry About a Registered Article or an Insured Parcel or an Ordinary Article" must be filed to trace the package. I currently have an insured package MIA to the Netherlands. I filed the form over a month ago and am still (...) (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.market.shipping)

  Re: Registered Mail went missing!

(...) That is true, but there is more to it than just that. I just called the local postmaster to confirm my understanding about how 'registered' mail is handled. Registered mail has to be signed off at each step of the way. Each office that (...) (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.market.shipping)

  Re: Registered Mail went missing!

(...) What you are getting with Registered mail is that the item is shipped in a locked container. This means only postal employees ever have any chance of handling it. It doesn't really confer any additional services (there are other services for (...) (23 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.shipping)

Re: US Postal rates to increase this July

In lugnet.market.shipping, Ben Roller writes: (snip) (...) Yep. Also keep in mind that the USPS has far more mailing points than either FedEx or UPS (counting counters here, not drop boxes). My 'local' UPS mailing options (less than 70 miles r/t) (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-02, to lugnet.market.shipping)

Re: US Postal rates to increase this July

(...) It may well kill Priority Mail, period. Their attempt to maximise revenue may move them to a far different place on the demand curve (as in, far less demand!) meaning they get less revenue after all. I'm happy to overpay on short distances and (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-02, to lugnet.market.shipping)

Re: US Postal rates to increase this July

(...) Well, first of all, I've found that the people that complain most about a business are the people that work there, so that's not necesarily an extra bad sign. Anyway, I didn't know, so I looked for the definitions of the zones. I found this on (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-02, to lugnet.market.shipping)

Re: US Postal rates to increase this July

(...) For those of you who detest all of those junk mailers, try the following: If the mailer includes a postage paid mail back envelope, just stuff everything they sent (including the outer envelope) back in the mail back envelope and return it to (...)   Re: US Postal rates to increase this July

(...) It's not so much the increase that is bugging me, but rather that they are going to the zoned system for all Priority Mail packages over 1 pound now instead of 5 pounds. Not only is this coing to make it substantially more expensive to ship (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-02, to lugnet.market.shipping)
