The CompUSA in Raleigh, NC has a few of these sets but not at this price
($10). Everything the Raleigh store has is at the $30 level. Not a bad
deal but far from $10.
While looking at the Mindstorms sets I noticed that CompUSA had some
Bionicle sets (small ones) listed for $0.01 - that's right - a penny. I
took a RIS expansion set to the register in hopes it would scan for less
than what was listed on the shelf but they did not. So I had them scan the
Bionicle and it came up as not in their system. I told the lady it was a
penny and she said "that can't be right, we don't sell anything for a
penny".
I showed her the shelf tag and perplexed, she went and got the manager. He
was also perplexed and believed it was a mistake. He believes it was part
of a "buy LEGO product XYZ, get a Bionicle for $0.01" type promotion but
couldn't find the details. He took shelf label down while I was standing
there and told me he would honor the price of $0.01 if I wanted to hold them
to it as he was required to do so by law.
I decided not to take advantage of what he believed be an error and he was
very relieved. My good deed for the day. Now I might have not have been so
willing to pass up a deal had it been for something that contained real
bricks. Bionicles don't do much for me so not getting them is not real big
deal to me. FWIW - I could have gotten six copies of the small orange one
(MSRP $3) for a penny each had I really pressed the issue.
Back to the matter of MindStorms kit pricing - I pressed on why it would be
one price at one CompUSA and another here in Raleigh. He wasn't sure and
went and looked them up again for me and they came up $29.98 again. He then
stated they were already on clearance as CompUSA's price for them was $35.
He also stated that he wouldn't be surprised if they deep clearanced after
Christmas but with Christmas coming, didn't think they would be beforehand.
YMMV.
