(Here he goes again...)
No, seriously! The first/last show was a train display. But, most
of the BayLTC members are also BayLUG members. In fact, a significant
percentage of our BayLUG members are BayLTC members. But are we only
interested in doing train displays?
It's been pointed out that;
Shows can be a lot of work
Shows should have lots of folks helping in shifts
Too many shows can lead to member burnout
So, the questions I've got are;
Is there an interest in setting up non-train displays?
Someone said it would be good to set up at a County Fair, but
we have members in at least four counties...that could be four
shows in a year.
Mike's tables will likely have trains on them, and he may not
be ready/willing/able to bring them up for many shows. (I'd
understand if he only wanted to make that effort for train
shows, since he'll need to get help in Selma to load/unload
the models, once he gets a trailer ready.)
I haven't heard too many folks talking about building up any
modular tables here in the Bay Area. ;-)
We can set up smaller displays on folding tables, like we do
at our meetings, if that's what we want to display...so, what
do we want to display?
The second questions is;
WHY do we want to display?
It's a lot of work to get a show organized, pulled off, and
packed up again. Why do we want to do it? I expect that the
answers are personal, and different for each of us, at least
in the intensity of the feelings. On the other hand, those
of us that feel strongly about putting on shows may rise to
be the natural leaders for the rest of those who want to put
on displays, so I wanted to hear some opinions.
Do we expect new members for the club? Given the amount of
time and energy, do we get enough members from showing versus
trying to get better newspaper/web P.R.? Is there anyt other
way(s) to attract new members that we'd like to try?
Are we trying to get some attention, as a club, from LEGO?
That is, are we hoping that our efforts will be rewarded with
some PR consideration from LEGO AG?
Are we just trying to try to drum up interest in LEGO trains,
hoping that the interest from new customers encourages LEGO to
start producing more/better train sets?
We probably have a mix of all of these in our group. I'm curious
to see how many of us have thought about it. But I'm concerned that
if we don't have enough support behind one or two particular reasons,
we may wind up at odds with each other, and then the display group
will fall apart, and maybe even cause trouble within the club.
Given that most of our membership is on email and the web, I figure
this is a fine forum to discuss what the club wants to do.
What are your thoughts on the questions above?

| TRAINS, TRAINS, TRAINS!!! Sorry - I just had to say that. I don't have a problem with having other displays, but that just isn't where much of my interest is. I would like to do a nice Star Wars display, like NELUG had, but I don't have time for (...) (24 years ago, 10-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

| Okay, Zonker. You asked for it(literally). What I did during summer vacation..err scratch that. Why I want to display? My answer is this: Personal pride, education and Inspiration. Around 5 or so my parents bought me a set of used Legos from a (...) (24 years ago, 10-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

| (...) Wow, that's an open-ended question! I'll throw in my 2cents worth. The GMLTC does 4 to 6 shows a year. We'd like to do more, but nearly every show we do costs us money - we very seldom make enough to cover show expenses. Especially the 'out of (...) (24 years ago, 11-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)
