Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

Hi The Toy Stack in the Lakeside Shopping Centre has some good and some no-so-good sets on special at the moment .. 6543 (Sail n' Fly Marina) £40 - dockside/station platform parts, crane - at least 10 copies as of this afternoon 5563 (MT Racing (...) (24 years ago, 28-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) I was just at the Toy Stack at Bluewater mall, east of London and they have many (all, I think) of the same items. Between Huw Millington, myself, and LFB we too out 11 6543's but they still have more, lots more. We got all the 6856's though. (...) (24 years ago, 28-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) That was a relatively small foray. ("small potatoes", as we say) I once (at Potomac Mills) bought so much that it took 6 large cartons to ship it all to me, and that was all just one particular set (the future car). However, you must admit, (...) (24 years ago, 29-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) I can attest to this. No way could you carry it all on a plane, but asside from that, it wouldn't fit into my car(1); not with me, Lar, other passengers, *AND* the Lego. Rich -- Have Fun! C-Ya!   Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) It is a pity the (so called) Future Car could not be claimed to be a "beauty" also. I too bought too much of this one in the past. The word "dud" comes to mind. The mind boggles at what you did with your six _large_ "cartons" of them. I think (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) It's the shopping process itself I referred to as a "thing of beauty"... not that dud (your word but I heartily agree) of a set per se. (...) Well... it has good to excellent parts for certain kinds of projects. As to what, exactly, watch for (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) The Glasgow Toy Stack also has some deals - one that caught my eye was the 5563 Model Team Racing Truck for 40 UKP, apparently reduced from 80 UKP. I must say it didn't look great for even 40 UKP, but perhaps I am missing something. Any (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) There *was* a brisk market for the wheels from the set, since they were useful in making trailers for the 5571, or for properly "duallie"-izing the 5571 itself (in the US most tractors and trailers (together making an articulated lorry in UK (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) The thing that made me pretty interested in the set at the time was that if I remember correctly, the combined cost of getting 4 wheels from the service catalogue was actually not much cheaper than the 16 UKP it costs for the set! Of course, (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) Thanks for the information Larry, I am still in two minds about this set. I didn't actually like the tires and wheels that much, but wondered if the other parts of the set were worth 40 UKP or not. It did seem debatable - and 80 UKP as the (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) Well using Ripoff Britain pricing of 1 pound = 1 dollar (that's what a big mac meal is priced at, for example), it's not too far off the mark at 80 sterling, where the US price was 88 usd. What was the UK price for 5571? So it's not TOO bad on (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)

Re: Shop report - Toy Stack, Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex

(...) I think that was a pretty good explanation actually, it told me what I needed to know, that there are a reasonable number of pieces in the set, and that it is probably better than it looks. I would agree that it could still be a _little_ bit (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)
