Yep. I acquired a taste for Newkie a few years back when I was on a project
with a chap from Newcastle. I know some in the UK don't consider it a proper
beer but I'm a wus and find Guinness a bit too strong for my palate.

"They" (that is yer man in the street" often say that Guiness made (and
consumed) in Ireland has a special taste to it. My friend worked at the
Guiness brewery in Dublin and let me into a well kept trade secret that I'm
willing to divuldge (but please do not refer to the source if you repeat it).

Apparently, the Liffey water is mixed into a large vat and once the Guinness
is brewed, it is stood for a while in an adjacent vat before being bottled. In
this vat there is the carcass of a cow, rotting away slowly. Though this
sounds disgusting, the Guiness actually acts as a preservative and the bits
are filtered out further down the process line.

Ask anyone who drinks this stuff in Ireland - it really does taste good.

Jon

Guiness is traditionally Irish although it was invented by 2 Londoners.

I had a screensaver he gave me that was basically a bottle of broon sliding
across and crashing, followed by the sound of someone crying. IIRC.

The Guiness screensaver is quality, some bloke staring at the pint from every
angle with the infamous music - you'd have had to have seen the advert to get
it.

I don't drink 'real beer', I drink chemical based lager.

Carbon 60

I thought Guiness originated somewhere in North Wales, discovered by a
salesman travelling from London to Ireland.

I have loads of Irish friends in this country and Germany who only drink
the stuff in Ireland - won't touch the english brewed rubbish.
Apparently, the Guiness brewed on the continent is better.

Murphy's is imported from the emerald isle, so it's OK to drink that.

In Newcastle (emphasis on the A), I thought they called NBA 'dog' e.g.
Man walks into bar, and asks for a bottle of dog, making sure it is
served with a half pint glass.

(Shouldn't this thread disappear somewhere else now?)

Remember, half p*ssed is a waste of money.
