What's the deal with this - and where's the catch? The website just gives a
phone number and no details.

If you're already use NTL for your phone line and TV (the £9.95 a month
package), then you get totally free internet.

If you're with BT or someone else, then you get sent an adapter that allows you
to make calls on your BT-line, via (charged by) NTL. There is a minimum £10 a
month charge for non-internet calls. So if you use £8 worth of telephone calls,
then you get charged £10, if you use £15, then you get charged £15. Apart from
the £10 monthly charge for, BT users can also get free internet :)

It's better than the Alta-Vista offer (which sparked off the competition),
which is £30-£50 startup, with a £20 (?) annual fee.. and better than the BT
offer which is free from 6pm-midnight but about £2 an hour during the daytime
(IIRC).

I phoned the number, and got my CD yesterday.. that part's free, and it has
more detailed info :)

Um, but don't phone the technical support at £1 a minute :)  Tis simple enough
anyway, oh - and the nicest thing is that it lets you choose whether you want
to use MSIE or NN! It also has a cruddy front-end to the DUN - but it's easy to
get the phone-number, DNS-servers, and create your own DUN :)

Catch-wise is a 10 minute auto-disconnect for non-use (which if you use a
mailer to check for email every 9 minutes or less won't be a problem). There's
also a 2-hour maximum online period, before auto cut-off, to stop people
staying online 24/7. These things won't bother most people, and are subject to
change in the future.
