Telewest / Cable and Wireless are offering unlimited on-line time for £10 a
month (plus £10 non-internet calls). Not as free as a free thing, but
cheaper than my bill would otherwise have been! According to my bill, I
would have spent over £200 for on-line time last month, although £50+ was
identified as 'short calls', i.e. where their modems picked up but didn't
connect! It's definitely _not_ a good service (about 20 connection failures
before getting in at 14.4 or 33.6!), but it's just about useable for now.
OTOH, take a look at Breathe.net (a la TRU) - £50 set-up fee, then nothing
else to pay. Then again, there are loads of ISPs jumping on this bandwagon,
so we'll all soon be on free net calls anyway 8-)

| (...) Well I have applied for this since Feb and they have too many subscribers so I am still paying full whack, and I can hardly ever connect. I only log on about once a week, so J-Box page may lag a bit. If any one wants to take over let me know. (...) (25 years ago, 14-Apr-00, to lugnet.loc.uk)
