A while has passed and to my (3) inquiries he claimed he didn't get the cheque.
After I got a reception notice through the mail he recalled getting the cheque,
but claimed a US cheque can take 21 days to clear..
He finally sent me the LEGO set (or at least he wrote me he did - I didn't get
it yet) 21 days after he received the cheque.

Hmmm, I wouldn't hold your breath for the set...this guy is either very slow
to get stuff done, or he's just plain dishonest.

As far as clearing the cheque, it depends on the bank and your relationship
with it. At our local (Owen Sound) TD, I can deposit a US$ cheque any time
and it's instantly in my account. That's because I have a good credit rating.

But....if the cheque comes back NSF after it clears, then the bank claws it
all back. If the bank thinks you are a poor credit risk, then they will
wait for it to clear before they give you the money. 10 days is typical....

Remember, when you give the bank a cheque, you are essentially saying that
you have verified that the cheque is from a reliable source. A certified
cheque gives you more protgection since the writer has asked the bank to
"hold" the ammount of the cheque in reserve. It's not in his account anymore.

Good luck.

Hi , I hope it's the right place for this question, if it's not please excuse me. I won an auction at ebay and sent the seller (a Canadian seller) a US bank cheque. A while has passed and to my (3) inquiries he claimed he didn't get the cheque. (...) (25 years ago, 20-Mar-00, to lugnet.loc.ca)
