So, my question is this. Do I have a moral obligation to other Lego
enthusiasts (especially those here in Australia since I've already done • the
import) to offer to sell this 8XXX?

Hmm, where's a Jesuit when you want one?

Basically, I see it like this; If you can see yourself using the set for
parts, then keep it. If you are just going to shelve it, then sell it.

It's SUCH a hassle buying the big sets OS, that if you can, you should help
out your fellow aussie. Due to the high cost, most of these sets aren't
really that good in a cost/piece ratio, anyway, so you're probably better
off selling the old set and buying a couple of new 8448's if you want
pieces. Unless of course the set contains righteously rare pieces (cue
8480's polarity switch, micromotor, worm gears, white pieces, or 8680's
pneumatic pump), in which case you can feel guilt-free in keeping it.

p.s. Out of interest, is it an 88XX or an 84XX?
