Kerry,
This is an admirable attitude to take, and one which encourages the growth of
the LEGO experience in all people.
But do understand, no one would begrudge you for offering the set for sale if
you truely do not want or need it. I can't understand this myself, as any
boxed LEGO which happens to find it's way through my door very soon (and it
can be measured in microseconds) becomes unboxed. The noteable exceptions were
the 8001's I got for Richard Parsons, and man was that an exercise in self
control!
My personal advice would be keep it, build it, love it, incorporate the parts
in your collection and build something else, and moral obligations be
<expletive which has similarities to a large structure retaining a body of
water removed>.
My loc.au advice would be to see if anyone else is after it (and I think
recent discussions have allowed this sort of market post to be included here.
If anyone complains they can visit abovementioned large structure), and sell
it to cover your costs. Even if you ask people to e-mail you for further
information to take it off the loc.au forum.
Hope this helps.

| I have something of a moral dilemma. Some months ago, I embarked on a crusade to buy myself an 8XXX, a large Technics set, no longer in production.
