I'm fairly sure I saw an announcement/advert about au.com a few months ago.
If I recall correctly it is an Australian company who wanted to provide "the
next best thing" to com.au addresses to those that didn't qualify. To get a
.com.au address you must have a properly registered Australian company and
also (if IIRC) the domain name has to be a direct derivation of the company
name. So only Lego Australia could get lego.com.au, if they haven't already.
I wonder how many people get caught out reading .au.com as com.au as I did
at first? My brain is so used to seeing the latter that's how I read it
initially.
