What kind of sets should I look at getting to obtain the right kinds of

sets on-line but am wondering if perhaps they are not really all that
suitable for a more realistic-looking castle.

Comments? Suggestions?

I'm not an experienced castle builder, but I can offer one piece of advice.
Do NOT pay $208 for King Leo's Castle.  I did, and I regret it.  My son
absolutely loves it, I, however, see $208 down the drain every time I look
at it.

I would have waited for a sale, but large sets are getting harder and harder
to come by in Tas, Myer is the only place that stocked this set.  Shortly
after I'd been enquiring about this set here Myer got 2 copies in and were
not expecting anymore this year.  1 set went straight away, and I decided
(foolishly) that it wasn't worth the risk to wait until an expected 20%
off sale in September, as I'd probably miss out altogether.  Comparing
likely postage and associated hassles in sourcing it from the mainland
I decided it would be safer and easier to pay full price.  Wish I hadn't.
In fact I'm not sure I'd be much happier with it had I paid $40 less, to
be perfectly honest!  But I digress.

The Guarded Treasury has some neat pieces and is not too expensive, can
be had for around $25, should be easy to get on sale at $20 as most stores
stock it.  Most of the small carts/catapults etc are nothing special.
The Bull's Attack set is way to expensive for what you get (around $90) and
was a similar dissapointment to the castle itself.

And that is my limited experience with castle sets.  May be better to source
older castle sets for serious building but I'm not familiar with them.  Other
than that hang out for bulk grey bricks in another year...

Lately I have been feeling the urge to build castles. In my opinion, the world's most perfect castle is the Chateau de Chillon: (URL) kind of sets should I look at getting to obtain the right kinds of building materials for my castle? I have looked (...) (24 years ago, 5-Sep-00, to lugnet.loc.au)
