I remember reading a history of soccer that attributed the popularity of the game to the fact that it could be played on any patch of waste ground or street without the risk of injury, unlike other sports which required the use of a proper playing (...) With Rugby, League and AFL (1), the ball is in the players hands for most of the time. So I don't see how it can be called Football. As far as I know it, the game is called Football in England, Fußbal in Germany and where I'm from, The Netherlands, voetbal Most countries use the term football... so why not the rest of the world?
