Well, handicapping in sport is the great Australian tradition, isn't it?
Look at the Melbourne Cup ...

I must say that while handicapping makes sense in social competitions, I
can't understand it in professional sport. Image applying it in Olympic
competition. I have visions of Ian Thorpe swimming with his legs tied
together (actually, that's butterfly, isn't it?).

Thorpie was a swimmer? Yes, I seem to remember hearing he used to do a bit of
swimming.

Actually, I'd like to see runners in the Stawell Gift handicapped with hobbles
of various lengths depending on their record, rather than just giving the slow
guys a head start.

Maybe we should apply it to Lego competitions. Introduce a rule that
previous winners are handicapped by not being allowed to use black bricks,
or must work entirely with slopes, or something like that.

That would be an excellent rule... people could boycott their pet peeves - bley,
very slightly mismatched colours, bricks that they believe don't have the clutch
power they should, anything that must not be built on carpet, etc etc.

I can see a few new rules coming in our next speed build contest ... good,
as I am always the slowest :-)

All the speed builds to date have been sprint events - maybe a marathon build
would be better? Or a relay, with one person doing the even numbered steps and
another the odd...

Cheers
