Hey Mel,

Tourist attractions: what they said although I'm not sure about the shot tower
with a 4 y.o (tall narrow tower, steep stairs, about 300 of them if I recall
correctly which is why I haven't done it!) :)  If you've got transport also the
Huon Valley and Tahune forest airwalk.  If you've really got money to burn a day
trip on the catamaran to Peppermint Bay (Woodbridge), you could also drive but I
don't think there are bus tours.

Check out http://www.discovertasmania.com (Tourism Tasmania).

Weather: We've had a mild summer this year (read: "what summer?"), which
generally means a mild winter following but 16-20deg while not unheard of at
that time of year is certainly not the norm!  I'd say prepare for 14C max during
the day and cold nights.

There is unlikely to be snow on the mountain in June, the past couple of winters
we've had very little snow and not until the very end of winter.  It's well
worth doing the trip up and won't be a problem with a 4 year old.  There are bus
tours if you're not planning on car hire.

Accomodation: Book early.  Right now, in fact.  With the 3 new interstate
ferries tourism in Tassie is booming and we are often booked out well ahead, and
you're talking a school holiday period here as well.  As for where to stay, the
problem with living here is I wouldn't have a clue!  Will ask around but like I
said, you need to book now so you probably shouldn't wait!

Lego shopping: apalling.  We're talking 1 Myer (good), 2 Kmarts (ok), 2 Targets
(seem to have forgotten what Lego is), one small Big W (only good with catalogue
offerings), 1 Toyworld (has its moments), and 1 Toy Kingdom (rip-off).

Lego meets: We'll see what we can do.  Anyone interested?  I haven't really been
doing the Lego thing for the past couple of years but I'd be happy to meet up.

Feel free to email me but as I'm smack in the middle of returning to work after
2 years maternity leave I'm very disorganised at the moment and might take a
while to get back to you!

Deidre (yeah, I'm still quietly lurking around here every now and then!)

(...) Bummer they don't give away bags of seconds any more :( (...) It's a nice drive, though, and great views. But if there's been snow you may not be able to drive all the way up. (...) I think you can also get bus tours to Port Arthur. As far as (...) (21 years ago, 26-Feb-04, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.loc.au.tas.hob)
